A Guide to Indeed’s Posting Standards

At NinjaGig, we understand how frustrating it can be when your job post, published through NinjaGig and shared to Indeed, gets flagged or removed. To help you resolve this quickly, we’ve outlined the common reasons jobs get flagged on Indeed (their article on job flagging) and actionable steps you can take to get your job back on track.

What Does “Flagged” Mean on Indeed?

A job flagged on Indeed indicates that it has been reported by users or identified by Indeed’s Trust & Safety team as potentially violating their policies. When a job is flagged, it may:

  • Require additional review or edits.
  • Be temporarily removed from search results.
  • Be permanently removed if it’s found to violate Indeed’s guidelines.

Problems typically occur for issues like misleading information, spam, offensive content, or incomplete details.

Common Reasons for Jobs not appearing on Indeed

1. Low-Quality Job Titles

  • Issue: Titles that are vague, misleading, or generic (e.g., “Hiring Now!” or “Rockstar Needed”).
  • Solution: Use a clear, accurate title that reflects the actual role, such as “Customer Service Representative” or “Sales Manager.”

2. Low-Quality Job Descriptions

  • Issue: Descriptions lacking relevant details or appearing spammy.
  • Solution: Write concise, detailed descriptions that outline the responsibilities, qualifications, and benefits of the role. Avoid keyword stuffing or excessive punctuation.

3. Misleading or Incomplete Information

  • Issue: Missing key details like salary, work conditions, or required skills.
  • Solution: Ensure all sections are completed with truthful, detailed information to maintain transparency.

4. Offensive or Non-Inclusive Content

  • Issue: Content that’s discriminatory or offensive, such as specifying gender, race, or other protected characteristics.
  • Solution: Use inclusive language and avoid unnecessary or biased requirements. For example, replace “Native English Speaker” with “Fluent in English.”

5. Suspicious Posting Practices

  • Issue: Posting duplicate jobs, requiring job seekers to apply through unapproved channels, or listing jobs outside their true location.
  • Solution: Post each job only once, use approved application methods, and ensure accurate location details.

6. Jobs Requiring Sponsorship

  • Issue: Certain jobs, like commission-only roles or positions from staffing agencies, may require sponsorship.
  • Solution: At this time, NinjaGig does not offer the ability to sponsor a job on Indeed. You may consider simply posting directly on Indeed if this is of interest. We are considering offering this in the future.

7. Reported by Job Seekers

  • Issue: Job seekers may flag posts they find suspicious, misleading, or inappropriate.
  • Solution: Review flagged posts for accuracy, professionalism, and compliance with Indeed’s guidelines.

How to Address Jobs Not Posting

If your job is not visible on Indeed but is showing on your custom NinjaGig brand page, there are a few steps to take:

  • Review the Job Post: Make sure your job adhears to the above suggested best practices (clear job titles, clear job descriptions, clear location)
  • New Job Post: Give your job post some time to appear on the many boards NinjaGig works with. Indeed is one of the faster yet we suggest allowing 48 hours for Indeed to ‘digest’ and post your job.
  • Revise your Job Post: If its been a couple days and its not showing, create a different post for the job. Make sure its not identical and test. Indeed shares very little information and many times trying a couple different jobs can be helpful to find out why one may not have posted.
  • Reach out to Indeed: If none of the above works. You can certainly reach out to NinjaGig but Indeed does not share information with NinjaGig and they ask our customers reach out to indeed directly via:  marketplacesupport@indeed.com

Tips for High-Quality Job Posts

To reduce the risk of flagging, follow these best practices:

  • Answer All Prompts: Complete every field, including salary, location, and job type.
  • Write Clear Titles: Avoid fluff or vague language; stick to standard job titles.
  • Provide Detailed Descriptions: Outline the role, required skills, and company benefits clearly.
  • Be Inclusive: Use welcoming, unbiased language.
  • Avoid Duplicates: Refresh old listings instead of reposting them multiple times.

Final Thoughts

Jobsnot showing on Indeed often stem from issues with content quality, transparency, or posting practices. By adhering to these best practices, you can minimize the risk of flagging and ensure your job posts reach the right candidates.
