The Therapeutic Learning Center is looking for 1 FT teacher's aide/parapro to work in a classroom setting with children with developmental disabilities. Minimum requirements: must have at least 2 years verifiable experience in educational/special needs setting and ability to pass Level 2 background screening. $16.00 an hour DFWP/EOE
TEACHER'S AIDE/ Paraprofessional
Reports to: Teacher, Director
Supervises: Students
An
employee in this position provides support to the teacher in the instruction of
students. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the teacher in the
teaching-learning process for students. The work is performed under the
supervision of the classroom teacher and director.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Provide group instruction as
indicated by the classroom teacher
● Provides individualized
instruction based on student needs
● Demonstrate various
instructional strategies infused throughout activities
● Monitor work and activities
assigned by the classroom teacher.
● Check and correct students'
work while in progress
● Keeps students engaged and on
task
● Praise and reinforce the
achievement of students, celebrate student success in all areas
● Report student progress to
teacher
● Instructional
Preparation/Support including, but not limited to: Preparing visual aids or
communication supports, duplicating materials, laminating, reorganizing
materials, distributing and collecting materials
● Assist as a substitute teacher
as needed
● Help classroom furnishings
and equipment
● Assist with the daily
collection of student data related to academic progress, IEP goals, and
behavior
● Assist with the collection of
attendance
● Assist with student hygiene
and independent functioning needs including, but not limited to: toilet
training and toileting assistance, handwashing, feeding
● Reconciles minor student
conflicts
● Implementing the Teacher’s
lesson plans and maintaining daily classroom schedules
● Supporting each child’s
social, emotional and intellectual growth and development
● Ensuring the wellbeing and
safety of children at all times
● Using a variety of
instructional and assessment strategies, as directed by the Teacher, to meet
individual student needs
● Assisting students with
assignments or difficult concepts
● Maintaining communication
with parents, staff and faculty regarding the progress of students
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● Working knowledge of
effective methods of dealing with children
● Working knowledge of the core
subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made
● Knowledge of the school,
organization and the community
● Skill necessary to operate
audiovisual equipment and common office machines
● Skill to make learning aids/assistive
technology which will strengthen lesson plans
● Ability to comprehend the
purpose of teacher designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional

Training and Experience
● Graduation from high school.
● 2 year degree from a
Community College
● 2 years of college, or the
equivalent of 2 years of college
● Possession of an equivalent
combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities for the position.
