Interprets physician
prescriptions and medication orders. Acts as a drug information resource to patients,
medical staff, nursing staff, and ancillary department personnel. Compounds and
dispenses prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals for patient care by
performing the related duties.

- Responsible for carrying out the mission, vision and quality commitment of Taylor Regional Hospital.
- Reviews orders issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy.
- Compounds medications using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
- Monitors all posting onto the patient profiles in order that accuracy, drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy, rational drug therapy, and incompatibilities may be realized and better patient care received.
- Checks patient care drawers prior to delivery to patient care areas to ascertain that the correct drug, dosage form, schedule and strength is being dispensed.
- Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures using aseptic technique
- Directs pharmacy personnel engaged in admixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
- Answers questions and provides information to physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals on the appropriate use of medications, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage, etc.
- Reviews and monitors drug therapy that requires dosing adjustments as authorized by the physician.
- Provides pharmaceutical care to all ages of patients from newborns to the elderly. Understands that there are dosage variations between each age group and knows where to find appropriate information.
- Maintains established procedures concerning quality control, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Actively participates in performance improvement/quality activities as necessary
- Demonstrates ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations, drip rates, formulation of pharmaceutical preparations, and data analysis.
- Demonstrates ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the hospital staff.
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy with responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s mission, policy, and any applicable laws.
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy on special assignments upon request.
- Complies with all policies and procedures of the department and hospital.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, and completes work within designated time.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Maintains a professional image of the organization in accordance with BMH policies.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Maintains an attitude that encourages retention through professionalism and respect.
- Participates in educational opportunities (certifications, in-services, etc.)
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, nurses, and all ancillary department staff.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree
- Graduate from an accredited School of Pharmacy
- Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the State of Georgia
Training/Experience:
Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population, obtained either through school education, experience, or subsequent training
